(Not so) tough love

Who was it that said that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and to expect different results?

Well, call me insane, because I can't count how many times I have gone along with my daughter's latest fad, bought the costume, shoes, instrument, uniform..., paid the subscription for a full year and then watched as her interest seems to, almost instantaneously, wane. If I'm lucky, her interest diminishes slowly and I can persuade her to continue until the next payment is due but, more often than not, when she decides that she doesn't want to go anymore, there is no moving her!

  • Running club - been there, done that, got the T-shirt (well, actually, it was a running vest but that's just being picky)

  • Drama club - ditto (another T-shirt)

  • Scouts - ditto (long-sleeved shirt with woggle)

  • Taekwondo - ditto (entire suit plus belt)

  • Guitar - ditto (it HAD to be a pink guitar)

  • Singing - ditto (exam fees)

  • Dancing - ditto (can't even begin to list the paraphernalia that accompanied this one!)

The list goes on.

There are few things quite as galling as continuing to pay a bill for something your little snowflake hasn't actually attended for the last two months.

Perhaps I should be tougher and make her finish what she starts but childhood is very short and part of me quite likes that she has many and varied interests (I also like a quiet life!)

This is why, when I was setting up Yorkshire Tutoring, I plumped for a pay-as-you-study approach to pricing. This means that if you decide that your son or daughter doesn't need or want tutoring anymore, they can stop at any time and you won't be out of pocket.

Parenting is hard enough at the best of times. Yorkshire Tutoring aims to make it just a little bit easier.

By the way, it was Einstein.
