FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT DO I DO IF WE'RE GOING ON HOLIDAY OR NEED TO CANCEL A SESSION?
Don't worry. When you register for tutoring you will receive a clear and detailed set of terms of conditions so there are no surprises. In a nutshell, should you need to cancel a session, just give me 24 hours' notice in order that your are not charged for that session.
HOW MUCH DOES TUTORING COST?
Fees start at £15 for a half-hour session for younger students. GCSE sessions are usually one-hour in length and cost £30 per session.
A 20% sibling discount is available.
We also offer a Refer A Friend scheme whereby you get one free session for every friend you refer who signs up for tutoring.
WHERE DO SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
Sessions take place online so there's no need for you to leave your own home. If you're going on holiday, or will be away from home, tutoring can continue as long as you have access to the internet.
Ideally, your child needs somewhere quiet to access their tutoring sessions but if there's a lot of noise in your home, noise-cancelling headphones can help.
WILL MY CHILD HAVE TO SHARE A SESSION WITH OTHER STUDENTS?
All sessions are one-to-one and each session is planned specifically for your child. I do not use an off-the-shelf learning programme; I design and plan a bespoke learning experience, using tried and test resources, to suit your child.
DO I NEED TO BUY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?
No. All you need is access to the internet and a PC, laptop or tablet.
Some students like to use a digital pen rather than a mouse and these are available for around £20.
WHAT DO YOU USE TO TUTOR ONLINE?
For the video and audio link I use Zoom Video Communications which is a browser-based meeting tool. Zoom also allows us to share screens and work together on interactive activities. You can check it out here.
We will also use BitPaper which is a Collaborative Whiteboard; it's rather like like an electronic notebook which we can both write on at the same time. BitPaper enables us to record all the work done in a session and it can be saved as a pdf so you have a permanent record of your child's work. You can have a look at BitPaper here.
HOW DOES MY CHILD JOIN AN ONLINE TUTORING SESSION?
I will email two links to you: the first is to activate the Zoom video link and the second is to open your child's Bitpaper whiteboard. It's a very simple process and most young people can do it without any help at all (provided that they can find their way around a computer desktop).
